I read an article by Simon Copland titled The US Cultural decline, or the untold story of the impact of YOLO in themoonbat.com. The author discusses about his thoughts on the real impact of the trend YOLO. He concluded that YOLO, may be bringing us short-term happiness, but it is stopping us from being able to plan for long-term success. We are living for now, but not planning for the future. This blog also states the different behavior of people. A psychologist notes that people enjoy time with their family, but they enjoy more with their friends. That's why they are more open to different activities without the guidance of their parents.
The other article i read by Nathan Heflick titled The Psychology of "YOLO" in psychologytoday.com; states the benefits and the downside of YOLO. The Benefits of this phrase goes like this according to the author; There is a research on "post-traumatic growth" in Massachusets. They explored how does the terminal illness diagnose and near- fatal experiences influence people. After experiencing trauma, most of the people experience profound shifts in terms of spending their time. Many of this people stated that they feel like they never lived until diagnosed with a terminal illness. They are just devoting their time to what they enjoy in life. Which promote positivity and happiness, that helps them cure. The Downside of YOLO -Today, there are many publicized cases of "YOLO" which is associated by unrully behaviors. One of this is the incident of a popular rapper. He twitted "Drunk af going 120 drifting corners #FuckIt YOLO". Another tweet posted about drinking and driving. The tweet read, "Driving tweeting sipping the cup of f*** yolo I'm turning it up". At that day the rapper died because of car accident.
These articles reminds us to be responsible in our actions. Because all of the things we are doing has an effect in our life, its in our hands whether we are choosing the right or wrong. We should think of the consequences that will happen and also the people that is going to be affected. What is more important now is to think and plan how to have a bright future.
Nethan Heflick stated that, "The buzzword "YOLO" has both negative and positive consequences when adopted as a mantra. One one hand, it seems that it can lead people to live more happy, authentic lives. On the other, it seems that it can lead to more reckless and less healthy behavior."
