Blogpost 1:"Conceptualizing the Idea of YOLO"

What is YOLO? This is an acronym for "You Only Live Once". This is very epidemic to teenagers today. They are using it as hashtags in different social medias. YOLO has a deep meaning but teenagers use this in the wrong way. For them this means having fun all day long, drinking, and smoking. Me and my boyfriend also argued about this. Because he loves hanging out with his friends, and make ass of themselves. I asked him; why is he doing those things even if he knows it can ruin his future? He replied that I should just understand him instead. Because we only live once and we should just enjoy being young. That is also the same reply i got when i asked his friend the same thing. I wanted them understand that they have the wrong beliefs. Because the real concept of YOLO is going out and doing something that will make sense to your life.

The first article I read is by Grant Hansell titled YOLO: An Analysis in huffingtopost.com. He stated that; YOLO has been the motto of the year. Made popular by Drake in his song "The Motto," the expression took the nation by storm and not only changed the way people think, but the way they act as well, and not always for the better. After reading articles about YOLO he started to analyze what it means. And there he come to two conclusions;

 1.Immortality and living forever are not     the same thing According to him this two terms may have the same meaning, but the actions are very different. Immortality implies on having an infinite life in both physical and mental world. This would also require lack of aging. Living forever, on the other hand doesn't apply these things. Living Forever can be simply as living a legacy. And leaving a legacy is the essence of his interpretation of YOLO. 2.Death makes life worth itHe explained that all of us has our own deadline we must meet. This is needed so that all would be organized. So that we can make more opportunities for our own. He learned that life and that has their own relationship. That we all have our deadline, so its our job to live and make our own legacy.

The second article is by Gillian Orr titled YOLO: You only live once (so get a better motto) in independent.co.uk; this article is discussing about the comedy music troupe The Lonely Island- graduates of Saturday Night Live including star Andy Samberg; have subverted its meaning by turning YOLO into a cautionary tale. With the help from Maroon 5's Adam Levine. They made the song "YOLO" (the video had 10 million hits on YouTube in just three days). This song tells the audience that, "You Only Live Once/This life is a precious gift/ So don't get too crazy/ It's not worth the risk". They also put up warnings about drugs, clubbing, not cooking meat properly. and taking the stairs.

From those articles, I noticed that many of us now a days has the wrong perception about YOLO. That's why I've came up into my mind to make advocates like this blog that, can help the teenagers to know more about YOLO. And I am hoping that also the future teenagers can read this so that it can help to educate them. We should always remember to think twice when we are making decisions in life. So that we can live without regrets.

      Grant Hansell stated in his blogpost that, " If you have become a YOLO enthusiast, I hope you see the expression for what it represents; living life to its fullest and leaving your mark on the world. So go out and do what you love and do it now. You'll be glad you did."

This quotation reminds each of us to analyze the true meaning of YOLO. I learned that not all things that makes us happy is good for us. If we already made some mistakes we should not forget about it. Instead, we should be using this as an inspiration to start focusing on what we have to gain. Each of us has our own path in life, we should be in the right one. Because the paths we take makes us who we are.
