CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
A. Background of the Study
Teen culture experience a number of shifting trends. Today, "You Only Live Once" is a very epidemic phrase; this concept of YOLO can help you live your life to the fullest, however, not everyone of us recognizes the true meaning of this. It may seem strange to allow this concept to influence our minds. But still, we accept and apply this to our community. Simlpy because we all know that each of us has our own limited time in Earth, and wants to live a life full of happiness and satisfaction.
Before, there was the emo culture. The term emo originated form a melodic sub-genre of punk rock music first called "emocor" or "emotional hardcore". It has evolved to become a well organized slang term to describe a group with particular reference in clothes, music, and behaviors; This traits are being applied by the teenagers to themselves. Because of the way they dress and adorn themselves, "some youth groups are viewed as threatening," (http://smhp.psych.ucla.edu/pdfdocs/youth/emo.pdf).
The researcher realized that emo is just like an art expression. Teenagers have this kind of expression where in they dress in black clothes, put in dark eyeliner, and listen into very loud music. Emo is also used to describe a particular relationship between fans and a subculture embracin a distinct set of values and behaviors. That's why people shouldn't be frightened by their appearance.
Then there was jejemon. This are the people who spell words unnecessarily eleborately, usually with sticky caps. They are kind of the like "jologs" people except that nowadays being jologs is equated with being game for everything or being low-maintenance which isn't really that much bad thing. Being a "jejemon" however is "frowned upon as it confuses and annoys whoever the jejemon is speaking to," (http://globalvoicesonline.org/2010/05/16/philippines-the-jejemon-craze/).
The researcher thought the "jejemon" is just a fad, something that will cease to exist in the years to come. Beacause of the fact that most people considered jejemons at the recenyt years are the young ones, those who are still discovering their true identities.
It seems that every few years teens develop a teen culture that everyone adheres to. It develops it's own cath phrase, fashion and lifestyle. These teenagers get their culture, gossip and attitudes from Google and Facebook. They are "constantly on, constantly promoting themselves and constantly connected." (http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2011/jun/26/untangling-web-krotoski-youth-culture).

DISCUSSION
What are the benefits and downside of YOLO?
Can YOLO change one's life?
Definition of YOLO
YOLO is an abbreviation for You Only Live Once. The dumbass's excuse for something stupid they did. This is the new culture teenagers are crazy for. It is the modern day version of carpe diem with a twist. Each people has their own ideas when it comes to YOLO. Some have the ideas of; YOLO means we should enjoy life, even if in entails reckless behavior and taking unnecessary risks.
Although we know that it has a subjective meaning, we still have our own beliefs. Which can be seen not only in normal people but also to those well known people in the industry. We are given a phrase that can serve as an inspiration for us.
A. Positive Effects of YOLO
YOLO has a deep meaning. Though teenagers understand this in the wrong way by using this as an excuse to do reckless behaviors; there are still benefits that we can get from this phrase. All we have to do is open our minds and to have a deeper understanding on its true meaning.
Nathan Heflick stated in his blogpost called 'Psychology Today', particularly in one of his articles called "The Psychology of YOLO" a research on "post-traumatic growth"; it has been explored how terminal illness diagnoses and near-fatal experiences influence people. After a period of this type of illness, most of the people, experience a hard time to bring back the normal cycle of their life, on how they spend their time, their appreciation in life, and their general sense of happiness. "The phrase YOLO inspired them to devote their time on what they truly enjoy, and not worrying much about what previously stressed them," (http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/the-big-questions/201309/the-
psychology-yolo).
The researcher has found this wonderful, on how this phrase can help people to recover from their illness. These article reminds us to be more responsible in making decisions. Decisions that can have consequences that can ruin or break your personality. You have to seek on what is the benefit that it can give to you right away. Because, what is more important is you, your happiness, and how can you have a good life.
B. Good vs Bad YOLO

B. Good vs Bad YOLO
According to the researchers observation; YOLO is being defined by everyone as a bad influence for the people specially to the teenagers. The people now a days enjoy having fun in a wrong way. But now the researcher wants to look at the other side. The people and the ways on how YOLO can also be in a good way.
Tony J. Washington stated in his blog called 'Positive Atmosphere', particularly in his article "The YOLO Effect"; It is clearly stated that YOLO can help people to live better. But, not all understands YOLO in this way. Others use this as an excuse to act reckless behaviors. Which can cause troubles in their life. But, if we would think responsibly in our actions; we can choose the righ and the good things that we deserve. We should cherish each moment of our life. Because, at the end of the day we all have one life to love and we shall live only once. "Start today by asking yourself why and then get busy modifying and changing what needs to change," (http://positiveatmosphere.com/profiles/blogs/the-yolo-effect).
It is good to experience and do the things that makes you happy. But, you have to consider some things before doing such thing. Cherishing each moment of your life can help you lessen your stress and problems in life. The researcher wants to remind the readers to be clever enough in seeking the true meaning of YOLO.

C. The Effect of YOLO in Christian Life
Life is a gift given by God, we should give importance and take care of it. We should be responsible enough in handling different choices and struggles in life. Because each action we make is our response for God's love to us.
Crystal Brothers stated his blog called "Serving Joyfully", particularly in one of his articles "Why Christians Should Live a #YOLO Life" a statement that says; all of the people know that God does care about of what we do - and what he wants us to live our one life for him. There are ways we should live out this concepts of our lives. And doing good things that can ruin your life. But if you think deeply, the real meaning of this phrase is really good. It is supposed to keep us closer to God. We have the limited amount of time to share the good news of salvation. "Witnessing can be very hard. But, if you only used your time wisely you can make the most out of it," (http://www.servingjoyfully.com/2013/08/20/why-christians-should-live-a-yolo-life/).
The researcher concluded that; witnessing can be very hard. But, if you only used your time wisely you can make the most out of it. We should also not waste our time messing up with our love ones. Instead, we should be considerate on others feelings and emotions. And always make sure that they can feel your love. Life as we all know is shorter than what we've imagined. That's why we should no waste our time. Instead, we should make our own legacy. In this way, we can have a peaceful life, and also a holy.
